To explain what Xango Music does we first have to answer this question:

Who is Xangó?

Xango is  a god,  an Orisha: he originates from the religion of the Westafrican Yoruba people . When the Yoruba were taken across the ocean to the Caribbean and Brazil, Xango accompanied them.  You'll meet him in cuban santeria and brazilian candomble. He symbolises thunder and lightning. Xangó is very flamboyant and a great warrior, lover, drummer and dancer. He represents music in many ways... We decided to celebrate the richness of the world's music by using Xangó's name (pronounced: "shan-gó").

Xango Music was founded 1997 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Running a specialized store, a distribution company and an agency  in world and jazz music, from traditional to popular, from folk to world dance and world jazz. The store has about 6.000 CD-titels directly available and more than 30.000 CD/DVD-titels in our catalogue on-line. The distribution company covers more than 60 labels and the agency represents numerous international artists.

Founder and owner of the first hour, Arnulf den Boesterd, started Xango Music as a hobby that got out of hand. His love of music made him decide to regulate his hobby into Xango Music. Interested in all kinds of cultural activities such as world music, theatre and dance, Annika Brandenburg joined the management team as co-owner in 2008. Xango Music is now devided in a Store (physical and on internet), Distribution and Agency.

Xango  Music now covers the needs for world music not only on CD but also live. The headquarters and store  in Utrecht provide customers directly or via internet. Our distribution warehouse in Alkmaar provides stores in the Benelux countries, with amazing and beautiful music. The agency enables the audience to experience all this music live!

   Arnulf: Besides enjoying culture, travelling, good food and drinks, Arnulf is fulltime busy with World Music, trying to make the unavailable available!

  Annika: I want to give these great world music artists a stage to perform. To hear great music is one thing, to see and feel it live on stage is another!
